Pitso Mosimane Leaves Al Ahly After Successful 2-year Spell

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane has left Al Ahly on mutual agreement with the club.

Mosimane is leaving the clubs with his assistants including fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and performance analysts Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon.

Al Ahly revealed that Mosimane approached the club stating his desire to leave and the club found it worthy of being respected.

“Al Ahly and Pitso Mosimane have reached an agreement to part ways.

“Mahmoud El Khatib, the club’s president, held a meeting with Yassin Mainsour, the chair of Al Ahly Football Company; Hossam Ghaly, the club’s board member and the planning committee members, to discuss Mosimane’s future with the club, ” the club said in a statement.

“Mosimane’s decision was discussed and it was decided to approve his request to part ways with the club, and to thank him for his achievements with Ahly.”

Relationship between the South African coach and the club had thawed following recent results including the CAF Champions Leahje final loss to Wydad Casablanca. Mosimane won five trophies at Al Ahly in 2 years at the club, and the trophies included a back-to-back Champions League triumph in 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. The first he won was Ahly’s first in seven years.

He had become a subject of criticism from the Egyptian press and former club players. Mosimane also didn’t think he was protected enough by the club.
