Only Verified Accounts Can Vote in Twitter Polls from April 15, Says Musk

Elon Musk, Twitter’s CEO, announced on Monday that starting on April 15, only verified Twitter handles would be permitted to vote. Musk thinks this will resolve the problem of advanced AI bot swarms.

Also, only verified profiles, according to Musk, will be able to show up in Twitter’s “For You” recommendations, which display a stream of tweets from accounts.

“Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in ‘For You’ recommendations. This is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Voting in polls will require verification for the same reason,” the CEO tweeted on Monday.

The rest of his tweet continues, “That said, it’s ok to have verified bot accounts if they follow terms of service & don’t impersonate a human,”

Musk declared last year that Twitter would restrict voting in surveys pertaining to public policy to paying Twitter Blue subscribers.
