The political crisis rocking Rivers State, Southern Nigeria is deepening as four commissioners on Thursday resigned from Governor Sim Fubara’s cabinet.
Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, the state Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma, and the Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly Alabo, are the latest among those who resigned in 24 hours.
As seen in the press releases obtained by News Central, Chinwenwo-Aguma cited “personal and other personal commitments,” while Alabo said his resignation is anchored on his “conscience”
Earlier, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, and the Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke, resigned from Fubara’s cabinet.
The political crisis in the state came to a hilt after 27 lawmakers loyal to former governor Nyesome Wike, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
However, lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara went on to declare their seats vacant while calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh elections to replace them.
The state government also on Wednesday pulled down the House of Assembly complex, claiming it is no longer safe for legislative duties.
