Minister Dismisses Calls for Resignation of President Tinubu as Distraction

Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, has rebuffed calls for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu, labelling them as an attempt to divert attention.

Last week, some governors from the Peoples Democratic Party, one of Nigeria’s major political parties, urged President Tinubu to step down if he couldn’t address the country’s economic challenges.

On Sunday, Mr. Idris asserted that President Tinubu would not resign and is fully capable of tackling the nation’s economic woes.

“President Tinubu is not and will never be overwhelmed by the current challenges the country is facing. He will not abdicate his responsibilities,” Mr. Idris stated in a release.

“He will courageously continue to wrestle with the challenges and surmount them, laying a durable foundation for the new Nigeria that is emerging,” Mr. Idris emphasised.

Nigeria is currently grappling with its severest economic downturn in years, marked by a sharp decline in the value of the local currency and widespread financial hardship among citizens.
