Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi Corp is expected to complete the expansion of its electric vehicle factory by mid-2025, according to reports from government-backed Chinese media on Wednesday.

The second phase of the Xiaomi Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Base is scheduled for completion on June 15, as stated by the National Business Daily, which cited a source familiar with the project.

The report also noted that workers are putting in extra hours to ensure the project is finished on time. This new phase is located next to the original factory in Yizhuang New Town, an area in Beijing that is home to many high-tech companies.

Xiaomi has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding this update. The company announced its entry into the electric vehicle market in 2021 with the goal of diversifying beyond its core smartphone business.

Having launched its first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, last December, Xiaomi has quickly established itself as a prominent player in the Chinese EV market. By the end of September, the company had sold 70,000 SU7 units since deliveries began in March.
