The National Assembly is considering rescheduling Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s budget presentation for Wednesday.
According to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, only the National Assembly may choose when the president can deliver the budget to MPs.
Idris briefed State House Correspondents on Monday following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He stated that there is ongoing discussion with the National Assembly and that the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill is anticipated to take place on Wednesday.
President Tinubu was scheduled to give the document to NASS on Tuesday.
Tinubu’s second full budget will be presented before the National Assembly after assuming government in May 2023.
On December 3, the Senate adopted the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), totalling ₦47.9 trillion in spending.
The expenditure framework authorised a new borrowing plan of ₦9.22 trillion, which includes both domestic and foreign borrowings.
The MTEF is a three-year estimate of the Nigerian government’s budget. This framework serves as the basis for the nation’s budget.
The framework was authorised with an exchange rate of ₦1,400 per dollar and assumed oil prices of $75, $76.2, and $75.3 per barrel for 2025, 2026, and 2027, respectively.
