Crystal Palace Secure Romain Esse from Millwall in £12m Deal

Premier League club Crystal Palace have signed highly-rated 19-year-old Romain Esse from Championship side Millwall. The deal, announced on Saturday, is worth an initial £12 million, potentially rising to £14.5 million with add-ons.

Esse, who has impressed with five goals in 26 appearances for Millwall this season, has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Palace. However, the talented forward was not registered in time to feature in Palace’s clash against West Ham on Saturday.

Club chairman Steve Parish praised the acquisition, describing Esse as the type of player who gets crowds off their seats—the type long associated with South London and Crystal Palace. Parish expressed confidence in the young talent’s potential to shine in the Premier League.

This signing continues Palace’s recent trend of developing promising players from the Championship. Notable examples include Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton, who have progressed to represent England after joining the Eagles from QPR and Blackburn, respectively.

Crystal Palace, currently 15th in the Premier League, are eight points clear of the relegation zone. The addition of Esse aims to bolster their attacking options as they look to solidify their position in the league.
