Amorim Brands Current Man United Side ‘Worst in Club’s History’ After Brighton Loss

Ruben Amorim made a shocking statement following Manchester United’s dismal 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday, declaring his team as “the worst in the history of Manchester United.”

The loss marked United’s sixth in 11 Premier League games under Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November. The Portuguese coach didn’t shy away from criticism, acknowledging the team’s dire state.

“We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United,” Amorim admitted. “I know you want headlines, but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge it to change it. Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me.”

The Red Devils are struggling in 13th place, just 10 points above the relegation zone, following another lacklustre performance at Old Trafford. Yankuba Minteh opened the scoring for Brighton, with Bruno Fernandes equalising via a penalty before half-time. However, second-half goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter sealed the Seagulls’ victory, leaving United in turmoil.

United’s six home defeats this season are their worst start at Old Trafford since 1893-94. Moreover, their 10 league defeats in 22 matches represent the earliest they’ve reached double figures in losses since 1989-90.

Amorim, brought in as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, has struggled to implement his 3-4-3 formation with a squad ill-suited to the system. Despite growing concerns over relegation and mounting pressure, the 39-year-old coach remains steadfast in his philosophy.

“I am not going to change, no matter what,” Amorim insisted. “I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now.”

While Manchester United are not yet in immediate danger of relegation, their inability to recover under Amorim has led to increased scrutiny of his leadership and tactics.
