Nigerian Passport Applications Go Digital in Europe

The Nigerian Immigration Service plans to implement a contactless passport application system in Europe, with the United Kingdom as the central hub.

This initiative, set to launch on February 7, will enable Nigerians living abroad to renew their passports online without the need to visit physical offices.

Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, made this announcement during a meeting with the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja on Tuesday.

However, she noted that this system is limited to passport renewals and does not extend to first-time applicants or minors. Nandap stressed that Nigerians living abroad can start renewal as early as a year before their passport expires.

The Comptroller General also pointed out President Bola Tinubu’s directive to streamline passport processing for overseas Nigerians.

She disclosed that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has approved a new passport processing office in New York to help alleviate backlogs, and there are plans to establish additional offices in the US and other nations.
