US President Donald Trump has ordered a suspension of military aid to Ukraine, escalating pressure on Kyiv to engage in peace negotiations with Russia.
The decision follows a public confrontation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, where the US president emphasized the need for an immediate resolution to the war.
A White House official, speaking anonymously to AFP, confirmed the pause, stating, “The President has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well.” The official added that the review would ensure that US aid is contributing to a solution.
While Trump had earlier stated that a pause in aid had not been discussed, he did not dismiss the possibility. Additionally, he warned that Zelensky won’t be around very long without a ceasefire agreement with Moscow.
