West Ham forward Lucas Paqueta is focused on returning to the pitch despite a Football Association hearing into potential spot-fixing, according to West Ham manager Graham Potter on Friday.

Allegedly, the Brazil international intentionally received four bookings in Premier League games for betting purposes.

His disciplinary case might start later this month and run up to three weeks, according to reports this week.

If found guilty, Paqueta is reportedly being pushed for a lifelong suspension by the Football Association.

Denying the claims, the 27-year-old has promised to “fight with every breath” to clear his reputation.

Potter added that despite injuring an ankle during training last month, Paqueta, who is now free to play for both club and country, might be eligible for Monday’s encounter against Newcastle.

“He is doing well. Given that his injury has kept him out of a few games, it is clear that he has been disappointed,” Potter remarked.

“But to return to the field, he has put in a lot of effort. He did well in his training this week. He has not caused me any problems at all. Ever since we arrived, he has consistently given his all during practice and competition.

“I have no control over the other things, but he has been excellent every day in terms of his behaviour.”
