Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has launched Africa’s inaugural feature film centred on Artificial Intelligence, titled Makemation, on Sunday.
During the unveiling event held in Marina, Sanwo-Olu expressed his admiration for the producer and cast, affirming his openness to collaborating on innovative ideas to promote and advance the creative industry within the state.
He emphasised the government’s dedication to investing in critical infrastructure supporting the creative sector’s growth.
“This is the most innovative industry. See this government as a partner in shaping the future we all desire,” he said.
Producer Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji said the film addresses essential themes such as STEM education, digital skills, financial literacy, and gender equality. She pointed out that Makemation, which features Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and Ali Nuhu, delves into the relationship between real life and AI. She also noted that the film examines the revolutionary potential of AI and its influence on the fourth industrial revolution.
Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Lagos State, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, underscored the government’s efforts to uplift creatives over the last six years. Through strategic collaborations, she revealed that the ministry has trained almost 20,000 young Nigerians in filmmaking, content creation, and other artistic pursuits.
She added that academies such as EbonyLife Academy, Gidi Creatives, AMA Creative Academy, and Delyork Academy have been instrumental in these initiatives.
