The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region of the country.

The agency disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Saturday.

The NCDC said both individuals had been isolated, while it continued contact identification and listing. It added that laboratory tests were being conducted to determine whether they had contracted the disease.

The agency stressed that the cases remained suspected and had not been confirmed as Ebola infections. It said confirmation would depend on the laboratory results.

Meanwhile, the NCDC advised the public to maintain good hand hygiene, practise improved sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities.

The agency added that it would provide further updates as verified information became available.

The development comes following concerns over Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa. The disease can cause severe illness and requires urgent medical attention.
