Asencio Earns First Spain Call-Up for Nations League Showdown

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has earned his first call-up to Spain’s national squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against the Netherlands. Coach Luis de la Fuente named the uncapped centre-back in a 26-man squad announced on Friday, alongside Barcelona’s Inigo Martinez, to compensate for the injuries of Aymeric Laporte and Dani Vivian.

Spain will also be without Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who remains sidelined due to injury. In his absence, midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Marc Casado have been included in the squad, joining a creative lineup featuring Pedri, Alex Baena, Fabian Ruiz, and Mikel Merino.

Alvaro Morata, currently on loan at Galatasaray, will captain the side, which boasts an exciting attacking lineup led by young stars Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
