British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has expressed strong disapproval after Israel detained and denied entry to two UK lawmakers, calling the incident “unacceptable” and deeply concerning.
Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed, members of the Labour Party, were reportedly blocked from entering Israel upon their arrival from London and subsequently deported.
Lammy released a statement on Saturday, April 5, 2025, asserting that the treatment of the British parliamentarians was “no way to treat” them.
He stated, “It is unacceptable, counterproductive, and deeply concerning that two British MPs on a parliamentary delegation to Israel have been detained and refused entry by the Israeli authorities.”

He added that he had communicated directly with Israeli government officials to convey the UK’s stance and had offered support to the affected MPs.
The UK government’s primary focus, Lammy emphasised, remains on securing a ceasefire and facilitating negotiations to end the violence in Gaza, release the hostages, and resolve the ongoing conflict.
Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza since a brief truce ended last month, aiming to reclaim territory and pressure Hamas to release captured hostages.
According to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry, the renewed Israeli offensive has resulted in 1,249 deaths, raising the total death toll since the conflict began to 50,609.
The war was triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which caused 1,218 deaths, predominantly civilians, according to official Israeli figures.
