The Plateau State Government has intensified emergency health interventions to contain a cholera outbreak as suspected cases climbed to 537 and the death toll reached 17.

Health Commissioner Nicholas Ba’amlong announced in Jos that while medical teams successfully treated and discharged 517 patients, active surveillance and containment efforts are being expanded to halt further transmission.

Only three patients currently remain hospitalised, all within the Jos North local government area.

Partnering with the SURWASH programme and the Ministry of Environment, the government distributed water-purifying chlorine to households in high-risk communities to secure drinking water supplies.

Health officials urged residents to practise strict personal hygiene, ensure proper sanitation, and seek prompt medical care at the first sign of symptoms.
