Israel Pushes for Broader Lebanon Talks

Israel called for ambitious, US-brokered negotiations with Lebanon on Saturday after conducting fatal airstrikes against Hezbollah targets.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the strikes should reinvigorate diplomacy by targeting Hezbollah forces directly, rather than stalling ongoing negotiations.

The military action followed a Hezbollah attack in southern Lebanon that severely injured three Israeli soldiers.

Israeli forces responded by striking a headquarters of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, killing commander Ali Samir Al-Haj Hassan.

Lebanese officials reported 11 total deaths across two separate strikes, including several children who were with the commander.

Israeli representatives maintained that they continue to support the US framework, urging Lebanese armed forces to secure the border region and remove Hezbollah.
