Israel called for ambitious, US-brokered negotiations with Lebanon on Saturday after conducting fatal airstrikes against Hezbollah targets.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the strikes should reinvigorate diplomacy by targeting Hezbollah forces directly, rather than stalling ongoing negotiations.

The military action followed a Hezbollah attack in southern Lebanon that severely injured three Israeli soldiers.
