The 2025 BET Awards nominees are officially out, with the announcement made on Thursday, 8 May.
Flying the Nigerian flag high are five Afrobeats sensations—Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Shallipopi—who all secured spots on the prestigious list.
Ayra Starr emerged as the standout among the Nigerian artists, notching up three nominations: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. A breakout moment, no doubt.
Tems followed closely with two nods in the BET Her category, recognised for her powerful anthems Burning and Hold On—tracks that have resonated deeply with audiences worldwide.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy, Rema, and Shallipopi each received a nomination. Burna Boy finds himself in the running for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. Rema is up for Best International Act, and Shallipopi—rising fast—scored a nomination for Best New International Act.
Across the Atlantic, American rap heavyweight Kendrick Lamar tops the nomination chart with a staggering 10 nods. Hot on his heels are Drake, Future, Doechii, and GloRilla, each racking up six nominations.
The winners will be crowned during the live ceremony at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on 9 June. The event will be broadcast on BET, promising a night of glitz, surprises, and unforgettable performances.
