Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working in tandem with personnel from Operation Safe Haven, have neutralised two armed bandits and recovered approximately 1,000 stolen cattle in Taraba and neighbouring Plateau State.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops responded swiftly to reports that armed bandits, riding roughly 30 motorcycles, had crossed from Plateau State into Taraba State.
The criminal gang had launched a cattle rustling raid targeting a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State.
The ongoing operation, code-named Operation Lafiya Jama’a, aims to reinforce efforts to combat criminality across Taraba and neighbouring states, ensuring the safety of all residents.
In a rapid and coordinated manoeuvre, troops from 6 Brigade, along with counterparts from Operation Safe Haven stationed in the Kampani area of Wase LGA, Plateau State, mobilised and advanced towards Komodoro village in Karim Lamido LGA.
Upon making contact, the bandits, who had already fled across the river boundary into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State, were engaged in a fierce gun battle.
According to a press release from Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, troops succeeded in neutralising two bandits and recovering around 1,000 rustled cattle.
The livestock were safely escorted back to the Jebjeb community in Karim Lamido LGA.
Efforts are now underway to conduct a thorough identification and verification process to ensure the cattle are returned to their rightful owners in due course.
Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the swift response and cooperation between security forces, reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal groups threatening peace and security in the region.
