The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reinstated four State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states that were previously suppressed, following court rulings ordering their restoration.
The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said in a statement issued on Friday that party primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored constituencies will hold from August 21 to 25, 2026.
The commission said the primaries would coincide with those for bye-elections to fill vacancies in several other constituencies, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.
Elections in the affected constituencies are scheduled for September 19, 2026.
Haruna added that all other timelines in the commission’s revised timetable for the 2027 general elections would apply to the restored constituencies.
“Political Parties are requested to submit Notices of their various Primaries to the Commission before their scheduled dates,” Haruna said.
He added that the commission remained committed to ensuring “credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes.”
