BREAKING: Wanted Kidnapper Arrested at Abuja Hajj Camp

Security personnel have apprehended a kidnap suspect at the hajj camp, Abuja.

A source at the camp told our correspondent on Sunday that the suspect, identified as Yahaya Zango of Paikon-Kore, Gwagwalada Area Council, was caught during the screening of pilgrims awaiting airlift to Saudi Arabia.

According to the source, Zango had been declared wanted over alleged involvement in kidnappings. He presented his passport “alongside other Muslim contingent from Abuja who were on their way to observe this year’s hajj” when operatives moved in. “It was this afternoon during the screening at the hajj camp in airport when the DSS operatives apprehended him and whisked him away,” the source said.

A senior official of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board—who asked not to be named—also confirmed the arrest.

Zango had reportedly been in hiding since a security manhunt was launched. Contacted by text, the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, replied, “You said DSS, but me I am the Spokesperson for FCT Police Command.”

The Department of State Services has yet to comment at the time of filing this report.

Nigeria continues to grapple with severe insecurity, and efforts to curb the menace have yet to yield the desired results.
