Postecoglou Vows More Success Despite Uncertainty Over Future

Ange Postecoglou has called on Tottenham to end the “strange” speculation surrounding his future as he pledged to bring more success to the club following their Europa League triumph.

Despite Tottenham’s heavy 4-1 home defeat to Brighton in the final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, attention remained firmly on Postecoglou’s position after he guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years.

The Australian manager’s side secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao on Wednesday, fulfilling Postecoglou’s confident claim that he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club.

However, throughout a challenging campaign, the former Celtic manager has faced ongoing speculation about his job security.

Tottenham ended the season 17th in the league, their worst top-flight finish since the 1976-77 season.

Although fans showed their support by chanting Postecoglou’s name during the Brighton defeat, chairman Daniel Levy has yet to confirm the manager’s future.

Postecoglou Vows More Success Despite Uncertainty Over Future

“It feels quite odd to be discussing my future after we have achieved something unprecedented,” Postecoglou said.

“I’ve been answering these questions because no one else at the club seems willing to, I suppose.

“But I firmly believe this could be a pivotal moment for Tottenham. Wherever I have managed, I have left a lasting impact by bringing success to clubs that had been waiting for silverware.

“If you look at the progress of those teams even after I left, they continued to compete at a high level. I truly think Tottenham is at a point where they can push on and regularly challenge for trophies.”

Levy’s programme notes released on Sunday afternoon did not mention the manager’s status, with Tottenham reportedly linked to Fulham’s Marco Silva and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

While Postecoglou is confident about building on Spurs’ breakthrough success, the 59-year-old admitted he is weary of the ongoing discussions about his future after an emotional week.

“My gut feeling? I feel I’ve done something no one thought possible,” he explained.

“I shouldn’t even be having this conversation about my future. But it is what it is. Maybe I’m speaking out because I’m tired.

“You’re asking someone who can’t provide an answer. I guess you wouldn’t be asking if there wasn’t some doubt.

“There’s nothing I can say to settle the question. Others can, but from where I stand, it doesn’t take away from what we have achieved.

“As I said, I’m very confident about what we can build here and want to push Tottenham to the next level. We’ll see what happens.”
