A Palestinian journalist was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday, bringing the number of media professionals killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 220, according to local sources.
Hassan Majdi Abu Warda, who led the Barq Gaza news agency, died alongside several members of his family after their home in the Jabalia Nazla district in northern Gaza was struck, the Gaza government media office reported.
The office strongly condemned what it described as Israel’s continued targeting of journalists in the territory and urged international media and human rights organisations to speak out against the repeated killings of press workers in Gaza.

Despite widespread global appeals for a ceasefire, Israel has maintained a relentless military bombardment in Gaza since October last year, resulting in the deaths of over 53,900 Palestinians—many of them women and children.
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, citing alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the ongoing war.
Israel is also currently facing proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where it stands accused of committing acts of genocide against the civilian population in Gaza.
