Carlos Alcaraz Begins Roland Garros Title Defence with Confident Display

Carlos Alcaraz opened his French Open title defence in style on Monday, easing past Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri in straight sets.

The world No. 3 produced a clinical display on Court Suzanne Lenglen, firing 31 winners en route to a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over the world No. 310. Alcaraz now advances to face Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan in the second round.

Widely regarded as the man to beat in Paris this year, Alcaraz arrived at Roland Garros full of confidence following back-to-back clay court triumphs at the Monte Carlo Masters and the Italian Open.

The 21-year-old didn’t face much resistance from Zeppieri and comfortably dealt with all three break points that came his way. Despite operating below his top gear, he dominated from start to finish.

Alcaraz is now on an eight-match winning run at the French Open and also captured an Olympic silver medal at Roland Garros last year, losing the final to Novak Djokovic.
