The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) have strengthened their strategic alliance to boost Nigeria’s export capacity, with projections indicating daily revenue of up to $7 million.
During a courtesy visit to the NPA headquarters in Lagos on Sunday, the President of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, emphasised the significance of maintaining robust engagement between the two organisations, citing DIL’s status as the NPA’s largest client.
“As the biggest customer of the NPA, it’s important that interaction between the NPA and DIL is sustained,” Dangote stated.
He highlighted the scale of DIL’s operations at the Lekki port, noting that nearly 240 ships carrying crude oil—each with a capacity of one million barrels—will be involved annually. Dangote added that the company’s activities would require the movement of about 600 ships each year, along with eight ships specifically for fertiliser exports.

On export expansion, Dangote revealed the company’s ambitions to grow its reach beyond Nigeria’s borders. “In the next two years, we’ll be exporting nearly 16,000 tonnes of fertiliser daily, which translates to roughly $6.5 million to $7 million in revenue entering the country every single day,” he said.
Responding to the visit, NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, described it as a show of appreciation for the impact of the Federal Government’s One Stop Shop policy, especially its “Naira for Crude” initiative.
He noted that since the policy’s inception on October 1, 2024, over 57 vessels have been processed monthly. “The projected volume Dangote is targeting annually is about 600 vessels,” Dantsoho confirmed.
