Wike Blames Chronic Complaining for PDP’s Current Disarray

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, voiced his frustration with the state of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), attributing its current disunity to years of inaction and misplaced priorities.

He stated this during a media briefing on Monday, June 2, 2025, adding that there’s need for his party stalwarts to rethink their strategies.

“I work for the party to be the major party in the state at a national level,” Wike said. “No one in your own state, the party, has never won the evidence. Crying, complaining every day from 1999.”

He derided PDP stalwarts who continuously lament electoral losses without introspection. “Complaining, crying, people did this, people did not do this. There is an election every day. Even when we were in power, we knew what we did to make sure that people take over the Lagos. It didn’t work. Even when Jonathan came, we knew what we did. It didn’t work.”

Wike’s remarks come amidst reports of widening rifts within the party, with questions around his loyalty to PDP. Asked directly if he was still in the party, he affirmed that he is a bona fide and dedicated member of the PDP and that there’s no member who can challenge his allegiance.
