NiMet: Thunderstorms, Rain Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the country on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

In the northern region, states like Taraba, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Bauchi are expected to see thunderstorms and light to moderate rain in the morning, while other parts of the region may have sunny spells with some cloud cover. By afternoon and evening, storms with moderate rainfall are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Gombe.

Residents in central Nigeria should prepare for a partly sunny morning with clouds, which will give way to light or moderate rain in many areas later in the day.

In the southern part of the country, states including Ogun, Edo, Osun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Bayelsa, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers will likely start the day with cloudy skies and light rain. Moderate rainfall is expected to continue into the afternoon and evening.

NiMet has urged the public to stay alert, as persistent rainfall and thunderstorms could lead to flash floods and localised disruptions.
