Buhari’s Body Leaves London for Nigeria

The remains of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari have departed London for Daura, Katsina State, ahead of his state burial.

The late president’s body was flown aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft early Tuesday morning, departing the United Kingdom before 8 a.m.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials accompanied the body of the former leader on its journey home.

Buhari’s Body Leaves London for Nigeria

Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London, passed away at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a prolonged illness. He was 82 years old. The nature of the illness has not been publicly disclosed.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive the late president’s body in Katsina by noon on Tuesday.

In honour of Buhari’s passing, the Nigerian Government declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday. The state burial will take place in Daura, his rural hometown.
