All political appointees under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration will no longer receive fuel allowances or allocations, effective immediately.
This was announced in a statement dated Tuesday, July 15, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Redirecting funds to critical sectors
According to the statement, the decision is part of the government’s renewed commitment to curbing public spending and redirecting funds to vital areas of national development.
“This latest cost-cutting measure follows sweeping reductions in the size of government through the appointment of fewer ministers and a leaner staff at the Office of the President,” the statement read.
Satellite TV subscriptions cut
The directive also orders the cancellation of satellite television subscriptions at the Presidency and across other government institutions. The measure is meant to reflect a spirit of shared sacrifice between the leadership and the citizenry.
“The President believes that leadership must also bear its part of the sacrifices it is calling on the people to make,” the statement added, reinforcing President Mahama’s position on leading by example.
In recent weeks, the government has rolled out a series of measures aimed at tightening expenditure, including limiting the number of ministerial appointments and reducing the size of the presidential staff.
This latest step is expected to reinforce fiscal discipline, encourage transparent governance, and serve as a visible commitment to accountability during a period of economic restraint.
