The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has urged politicians from the Northern Region to postpone their presidential aspirations until 2031.
Akume made this statement during his address at a two-day Interactive Session on Government-Citizen Engagement held on Tuesday in Kaduna. The event, themed “Evaluating Electoral Commitments: Encouraging Government-Citizen Engagement for National Unity,” was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.
The SGF praised the foundation for creating a platform where citizens and the government can come together to discuss ways to improve governance, democracy, and development.
He noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has been in power for two years and two months, emphasising that its accomplishments are both significant and noteworthy.
“I will urge politicians from the Northern Region to wait till 2031. Do not join a group that will stagnate the various developments achieved by President Tinubu.” He said, adding that the president has enhanced the country’s security framework and invigorated agriculture through progressive initiatives.

Akume stated that Tinubu is on the right path to lead Nigeria to fulfilment, adding: “I encourage politicians from the Northern Region to hold off until 2031.”
The SGF clarified that the Renewed Hope Agenda is more than just a catchphrase; it reflects a serious commitment to restoring hope across all regions of the nation.
He highlighted some of the successes in diplomacy and foreign relations, transportation, job creation, education, tax reforms, Local Government Autonomy, national security, sports, anti-corruption efforts, and overall peace and stability.
He reiterated that given the various advancements over the past two years and two months under Tinubu, patriotic politicians should set aside their presidential ambitions until 2031.
