Kamala Harris Announces Book on 2024 Presidential Bid

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has revealed plans to publish a memoir offering an insider’s account of her short-lived 2024 presidential campaign. The book, titled 107 Days, is scheduled for release in the United States on September 23, through publishers Simon & Schuster.

In a video posted on social media on Thursday, Harris described the book as a candid and reflective retelling of her brief but intense campaign. “Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for president of the United States – 107 days – travelling the country, fighting for our future – the shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” she said.

Harris, who made history as the first woman to serve as US vice president, stepped into the presidential race after Joe Biden withdrew in July 2024 amid growing concerns about his cognitive health. Despite her rapid rise to the Democratic nomination, Harris was defeated by Donald Trump in the general election.

According to Harris, 107 Days will provide a behind-the-scenes look at her experiences on the campaign trail. Her announcement comes just a day after she ruled out running for governor of California in 2026, though reports suggest she has not closed the door on a potential 2028 White House bid.

In her video statement, Harris hinted at a continuing political journey, stating: “Sometimes, the fight takes a while” – a comment many see as a nod to future ambitions. Following months of relative quiet after her defeat, the Democrat is re-emerging on the public stage.

She is set to appear on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night, marking one of her first major media engagements since the election. The popular late-night programme is due to end next year, as recently confirmed by CBS.

Meanwhile, another prominent figure from the Biden administration, former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, is also preparing to release a book. Her forthcoming memoir, Independent, was announced last month. Jean-Pierre revealed she was leaving the Democratic Party, criticising it for what she claimed was a betrayal of President Biden.

Harris’s return to the spotlight, and her new book, are expected to reignite speculation over her political future, especially as the Democratic Party seeks new leadership following a turbulent electoral cycle.
