Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said on Tuesday that the club had “recovered many things” after last season’s trophyless run, promising that his team still had more to show.

The City manager has reshaped his squad across the last two transfer windows, with long-serving figures such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Ederson leaving the club.

City adopted a defensive approach in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal, conceding a late equaliser and falling further behind league leaders Liverpool.

Asked about his tactics before Wednesday’s League Cup tie with Huddersfield, Guardiola said he was proud of his side’s resilience.

“We recovered many things we missed last season. We have an incredible spirit,” he said, though he admitted the team could not sustain that style for an entire campaign.

He praised Arsenal’s quality, calling the point an achievement, and noted improvements since City’s 3-0 win over Manchester United. “We can do better, yes, but first comes the spirit we have shown this week,” he added.

City, ninth in the Premier League after five matches, already trail Liverpool by eight points.

Guardiola, however, has won the League Cup four times and aims to use the competition to build momentum.
