The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has addressed recent claims about an ongoing internal restructuring, indicating that this action is a strategic measure to protect the facility from ongoing acts of sabotage that have created significant safety hazards and interrupted operations.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 26, 2025, the refinery’s management made it clear that the restructuring is not arbitrary but is driven by the necessity to maintain the integrity and stability of what it termed a “strategic national asset.”

“The decision was taken in the best interest of the refinery,” the company noted, citing intermittent cases of sabotage within various operational units, which it said had endangered lives and impacted operational efficiency.

“We remain vigilant to our internal systems and vulnerabilities to ensure the long-term stability of this strategic national asset. It is imperative to protect the refinery for the benefit of Nigerians, our partners across Africa, and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on it.

“Over 3,000 Nigerians continue to work actively in our petroleum refinery at present. Only a very small number of staff were affected, as we continue to recruit Nigerian talent through our various graduate trainee programmes and experienced hire recruitment process.” The statement read.

The company reiterated its dedication to the safety of its employees and the ongoing mission to meet the energy needs of Nigerians and the broader African continent.
