The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has stated that it will stop selling petrol in naira, explaining that its crude-for-naira supply has been fully used up.

In a notice issued to customers on Friday, the refinery said this change will be implemented starting Sunday, September 28, 2025.

The statement, issued by its commercial operations department, explained that the facility had been selling petroleum products beyond its approved naira crude allocation and could no longer sustain the arrangement.

“Effective September 28, 2025, the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in naira will be suspended,” the notice read.
“Further communication on the resumption of supply will be provided once the issue is resolved.”

The company also advised customers who had already made payments in naira but had yet to receive supplies to formally apply for refunds.

Nigeria introduced the crude-for-naira policy on October 1, 2024, to ensure local supply, conserve foreign exchange, and stabilise pump prices.

However, in March 2025, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced a halt to the scheme until 2030 after forward-selling all its crude oil.

Following that development, Dangote Refinery temporarily suspended naira sales but later resumed under a phased arrangement.

In April, the Nigerian government confirmed that the programme would continue beyond the first phase, which ended on March 31.

Earlier in May, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said further updates on the naira-for-crude initiative would be provided in due course.
