Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi publicly endorsed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza initiative, praising it as a path toward a ceasefire after two years of “war, genocide, killing and destruction.”
The President’s remarks were delivered as delegations from Hamas, Israel, and the United States gathered in Egypt for critical talks on a hostage-prisoner exchange and a truce.
Sisi connected Trump’s proposal to the legacy of the 1973 war, stating that a ceasefire, the return of detainees, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the eventual establishment and recognition of a Palestinian state are the necessary steps toward lasting stability in the region.
He emphasised that future peace must be built on justice, rather than being imposed by force.
A key mediator in the conflict, Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to national security and warned against any threat of forced mass displacement of Palestinians into Egyptian territory, asserting the Egyptian army’s dedication to defending its borders.
