The notice, effective from Sunday, September 28, 2025, initially signals a two-week warning strike before a total and indefinite shutdown if the federal government fails to act.
In a letter dated October 5, 2025, and signed by ASUU President Prof. Chris Piwuna, the union regretted the lack of meaningful progress.
Piwuna explained that the National Executive Council (NEC), after evaluating referendum results across branches, issued a fourteen-day ultimatum to the government to address issues in the renegotiated agreement submitted in February 2025.
He warned that, if the government does not take satisfactory steps, the two-week warning strike will commence.
Piwuna urged all members to mobilise, follow instructions from their chairpersons, consult zonal coordinators when in doubt, and attend Congress meetings for updates.
The union emphasised unity and collective action to strengthen their position, improve welfare, and reposition the Nigerian University System for global competitiveness.
