The Lagos State Government has announced that construction of the $3 billion Green Line rail project, which will link Marina to the Lekki corridor, will commence in December 2025.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday via the state government’s official X account.

Osiyemi explained that the government had completed detailed feasibility studies and held extensive stakeholder consultations along the Lekki–Epe corridor in preparation for the project’s commencement.

The Green Line rail, designed to be completed within two to three years, will be built in phases. The first phase will run from the Lekki First Tollgate to Epe, while the second phase will start from Marina and feature an innovative on-water segment.

“The government has undertaken comprehensive consultations and feasibility assessments along the Lekki–Epe Expressway corridor ahead of the Green Line’s launch in December,” Osiyemi stated. “Construction will proceed in stages, beginning with the Lekki First Tollgate to Epe route, while the Marina section will include a water-based extension.”

The announcement follows the state government’s intensified enforcement activities along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, aimed at removing illegal structures and reclaiming wetlands essential for protecting the Green Line’s right-of-way.
