Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has sworn in 19 commissioners along with several chairmen and members of boards and commissions.

Presiding over the ceremony at the Government House in Benin, the governor issued a firm warning against corruption and any conduct capable of tarnishing the integrity of his administration.

According to a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo emphasised that all appointments were made purely on merit. He reminded the new appointees that their positions were not rewards but a call to serve the people of Edo State.

“Your nominations are not a form of patronage, but a duty to serve the people,” he stated. “This administration came into office with the promise of practical governance that directly impacts our citizens.”

Reaffirming his commitment to accountability and effective governance, Okpebholo urged the new commissioners and board members to focus on results rather than propaganda. He charged them to perform their duties diligently, uphold discipline, and work collaboratively for the state’s progress.

“Our priority is service delivery and tangible outcomes that benefit every community,” he said. “Your appointments are not avenues for personal gain but opportunities for sacrifice and service. This administration maintains zero tolerance for corruption. History will judge us by our actions, not our words.”

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi; the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikilor; the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gani Audu; serving commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, and other senior officials.
