A drone attack targeted the area around Khartoum International Airport early on Tuesday, just one day before Sudanese authorities planned to reopen it for domestic flights after more than two years.
Eyewitnesses told AFP that they heard drones over central and southern Khartoum, followed by multiple explosions near the airport between 4:00 and 6:00 am (0200-0400 GMT).
The airport has remained closed since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), causing extensive damage to essential infrastructure across the capital.
