Russian Strikes on Ukraine Kill Eight

Russian strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Sunday, just one day after Moscow pledged at the United Nations General Assembly to achieve its war aims “no matter the circumstances.”

Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi confirmed that an attack on a children’s centre in northern Sumy killed three people, including a 16-year-old girl.

Further overnight strikes claimed lives in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, and the southern Odesa region as Russia escalated its air campaign into the fifth year of the invasion.

Ukrainian officials accused Moscow of intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure as the nation prepares for winter.

President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on social media that Russian forces launched “more than 2,200 attack drones,” 1,650 aerial bombs, and 38 missiles over the past week alone, directly striking homes, shops, medical facilities, and grain storage warehouses.

Kyiv authorities reported damage across 16 sites, while local emergency teams rushed wounded residents, including teenagers, to hospitals.

Russia’s Defence Ministry defended the offensive, claiming its drones hit telecommunications centres servicing the Ukrainian military, even releasing images of a drone stamped with “Digital Detox” to signal internet disruption efforts.

The ministry also announced that Russian troops captured the eastern border village of Khrypuny in the Kharkiv region, reiterating the Kremlin’s firm stance to push its military campaign “to the end.”
