Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Abdullahi Bello, has died in a car accident.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road as Bello was returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, after attending the North-East regional consultation on developing a national Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) framework.

Ismaila Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, confirmed the death in a statement issued on Friday night.

According to Misilli, Bello died alongside his police orderly, Adamu Husaini, while his driver sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya described Bello’s death as devastating, noting that he was a disciplined and patriotic officer who applied his military expertise to serve the state.

“Colonel Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a symbol of discipline, courage, and selfless service,” the governor said.

Yahaya added that the late commissioner carried out his duties with exceptional diligence and commitment, calling his death a monumental loss to both Gombe State and Nigeria.
