China has denied allegations made by US President Donald Trump that it was conducting clandestine nuclear weapons tests unknown to the public.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that China, as a responsible power, has always pursued peaceful development and adheres to a “no first use” nuclear policy.

She stressed that Beijing maintains a self-defence nuclear strategy and fully abides by its commitment to suspend nuclear testing.
