Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concern over Viktor Gyokeres’ muscle injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-0 win at Burnley.
Gyokeres, who joined Arsenal in a £64m transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer, scored the opening goal before being substituted at half-time. The 27-year-old striker has netted four Premier League goals this season but has not trained since the Burnley match and will miss Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Slavia Prague.
“No, he’s definitely not available,” Arteta told BBC Sport when asked if Gyokeres would feature. “He hasn’t trained today. We need further tests and scans over the next few days to understand the extent of the injury.”
Asked whether the issue was short-term, Arteta declined to offer reassurance. “I am concerned because he hasn’t had many muscular problems before, and leaving the pitch early is never a good sign, especially for a very explosive player,” he said.
Arteta added that seven Arsenal players are currently sidelined, including forwards Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Noni Madueke, and Gabriel Jesus.
