The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has reaffirmed its goal to raise crude oil production to 2 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027 and to 3 million bpd by 2030.
Udy Ntia, the company’s Executive Vice-President for Upstream Operations, disclosed this on Monday at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025, hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
Speaking during a session titled “Beyond the Barrel: The Future of Upstream Strategy,” Ntia said NNPC’s growth strategy focuses on technology, efficiency, and decarbonisation. He emphasised that Nigeria’s upstream sector is moving from competition to collaboration and co-investment to achieve smarter, cleaner, and more profitable oil production.

He noted that artificial intelligence and digital tools are being adopted to maximise output from mature fields and guide smarter capital investment.
According to him, the company is committed to cutting emissions while developing projects in gas monetisation, flare reduction, and pipeline expansion, including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline.
“Our shared aim is profitability, sustainability, and growth,” he said, reaffirming that NNPC’s upstream plan seeks to balance energy security, profitability, and environmental responsibility to keep Nigeria’s resources relevant in the global energy transition.
Ntia added that refinery optimisation and hybrid financing models will ensure faster, bankable project execution. He also stressed that future success depends on collaboration between national and international oil companies.
