Lebanese Parliament Speaker and Hezbollah ally Nabih Berri has rejected the proposed trilateral framework agreement involving Lebanon, Israel and the United States, saying it fails to protect the country’s interests.

In a statement issued early Monday and shared by his Amal Movement, Berri declared that the agreement would neither be approved nor implemented in its current form.

“This agreement will not pass, and it will not be implemented in its current form,” Berri said.

He described the proposal as “an agreement of ‘dictates’, not an agreement that preserves Lebanon’s rights.”

The proposed framework is intended to pave the way for peace between Lebanon and Israel. It also makes Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory conditional on the disarmament of Hezbollah.
