Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen netted all three goals as Galatasaray thumped Ajax in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) match at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old forward found the back of the net for the first time in the 59th minute, slipping behind the Ajax defence to head in a lobbed cross from Leroy Sane.
Osimhen followed up by scoring two penalties within a span of 10 minutes, marking his first-ever UCL hat-trick.
This performance brings his UCL goal count this season to six, placing him at the top of the competition’s scoring leaderboard. Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappe all have five goals.
The Super Eagles forward previously scored once against Liverpool and added another brace against Bodo/Glimt in his last two UCL appearances.
Osimhen also set a new record for the most goals by a Nigerian in all UEFA club competitions, totalling 25 goals and surpassing Obafemi Martins’ previous record of 23 goals.
