Iran Executes Man Publicly for Doctor’s Murder

Iranian officials executed a man convicted of murdering a doctor in the southwestern region of the country, as reported by the judiciary on Tuesday.

“The qisas (retribution) sentence for the murderer of Dr Davoudi was carried out in public this morning in Yasuj,” capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, the judiciary’s official outlet, Mizan Online, reported.

This judgment came after the defendant underwent a mental health assessment, and the Supreme Court confirmed the ruling, according to the judiciary.

Iran is the second-highest executioner globally, following China, as noted by human rights organisations like Amnesty International.

While most executions are carried out in prisons, there are rare instances of public hangings.
