Tension broke out at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, after several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a moving passenger bus travelling along the Zaria–Katsina highway.
A video shared on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism platform, showed the incident occurring directly in front of the university’s main gate on Tuesday, causing brief confusion among students, pedestrians, and motorists.
According to the report, an eyewitness identified as Musa said the ammunition fell from a commercial vehicle heading towards Katsina.

“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before anyone could grasp what had happened, the vehicle had vanished,” he said.
Musa added that some bystanders quickly gathered the scattered ammunition and notified security personnel stationed nearby.
A student, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the incident as “strange and frightening”, noting that many suspected the ammunition might have been part of supplies meant for bandits operating in Kaduna and Katsina.
Makama reported that security operatives later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition.
