Hong Kong police have arrested 13 people in connection with a deadly fire that tore through an apartment complex last week, killing at least 146 residents.

Chan Tung, director of crime and security at the Hong Kong Police Force, said the arrests were made as part of a comprehensive manslaughter investigation.

The detainees, 12 men and one woman, are aged between 40 and 77.

Authorities also revealed that some of the scaffolding netting used on the estate’s exterior failed to meet fire-resistance standards.

Samples collected from seven locations across multiple floors in four buildings were found non-compliant, according to city chief secretary Eric Chan.

The fire, which broke out at the Wang Fuk Court residential estate in the Tai Po district on November 26, 2025, has prompted renewed scrutiny of building safety regulations in the city.
