President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
This key appointment follows the resignation of the previous minister and comes as the country grapples with a deepening security crisis, including a terrorism insurgency, widespread banditry, and a sharp increase in mass kidnappings, particularly of schoolchildren.

Amid intense international and domestic scrutiny, Tinubu recently declared a “nationwide security emergency” due to the surge in abductions.
General Musa’s nomination requires confirmation by the Senate.
